Participating in Road Public Private Partnership Projects and Providing Technical Advisory Services Outside of Japan

In 2010, we established a liaison office in India, where large-scale road development is expected, and, in June 2013, initiated a joint research to identify road PPP projects with one of the largest Indian public private partnership (PPP) road operators, IL & FS Transportation Networks Limited (ITNL).

In March 2014, we entered a road PPP business in India as a trial by acquiring part of the shares of Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), which operate a 4-laning project in the section between Pune and Sholapur, located in the State of Maharashtra. Moreover, since February 2014, we have been providing technical advisory services to ITNL regarding our technologies and know-how on the planning, construction, operation, and maintenance of expressways that we have accumulated over a long period. As a partner company of ITNL, we will steadily perform research and review in preparation for full-scale entry into road PPP projects in India, together with Japan Expressway International Co., Ltd. (JEXWAY).

Participating in International Conferences and Seminars

We participate in the World Road Association (PIARC) and International Road Federation (IRF), and collect and transmit information on global expressway technologies. In FY2015, we attended the PIARC World Road Congress in Seoul, which afforded us the opportunity to introduce our technologies and expertise to an international audience. Furthermore, at the Japan-India Innovation Seminar held in New Delhi, we gave a presentation on the experience we have gained and the sophisticated technologies we have honed in the road business in Japan.

International Cooperation

Through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), we dispatch technical experts for the construction and maintenance of expressways to developing countries, where we contribute to solving road-related issues. In FY2015, we sent three experts to India (one long-term expert and two short-term experts) and one long-term expert to Myanmar. In addition, we also received about 160 overseas trainees, etc., in FY2015, in response to requests from Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT), JICA and other bodies.

International Exchange

We have been exchanging information with ASFiNAG, an Austrian expressway company, to enhance our technical strength, based on a technology exchange agreement concluded with the company in April 2008. In FY2015, we undertook an on-site tour together on issues such as disaster prevention technology and asset management, and exchanged opinions on those issues.
