Based on the environmental policy, NEXCO EAST will carry out the following actions.

  1. Efforts on environmental preservation
    1. Contribution to prevention of global warming
      • Expressway CO2 has been improved through the improvement of the network, the promotion of ETC, the smoothing of traffic by measures such as congestion on the main line, and the formation of forests on the slopes.2Contributes to the reduction of
    2. Contribution to creating a recycling-oriented society
      • Promote 3R (reduce, reuse, recycle) and promote green procurement, contribute to the formation of a recycling-oriented society.
    3. Reduction of environmental burden
      • We will strive to reduce the impact on the roadside living environment.
      • We will strive to reduce the impact on the natural environment.
      • We will strive to reduce the environmental burden at all stages of our business activities.

CO related to Expressway2Emissions

NEXCO EAST Within the jurisdiction, CO emissions emitted in FY20182Is estimated to be about 7.9 million tons. The breakdown is Expressway 96.9% are emitted from customers' vehicles, 2.5% are related to road and SA / PA maintenance, 0.1% are related to offices (buildings), and construction of construction and repair works Materials related to materials are 0.5%.

CO involved in maintenance2Change in emissions

CO involved in maintenance2Approximately 90% of emissions are due to the use of electricity such as tunnel lighting and road facilities. Reduction of electricity consumption is CO2As this will also reduce emissions and save energy resources, we are updating equipment to energy-saving types and operating more efficient equipment and equipment. As a result, CO per 1km of management extension2Emissions are 50.8 tons-CO in FY2018266.3 tons-CO in FY20072Has been reduced by about 23%.

CO involved in office activities2Change in emissions

We are striving to reduce the amount of energy used in the office by introducing cool biz and warm biz, turning off lights, and introducing hybrid vehicles. In fiscal 2018, approximately 3,900 kl was used, a reduction of approximately 30% from fiscal 2009 (approximately 6,100 kl), which was the base year for which data collection began.

Improvement of Expressway network, environmental improvement by new Expressway toll system

Expressway was possible to run at a stable speed by improving the expressway, and compared with using the general road, CO2Besides, NOXAnd SPM emissions are also reduced.

In 2018, the outer ring road (Misato Minami IC-Takaya JCT), SHIRIBESHI EXPRESSWAY(Yoichi IC-Otaru JCT) opened, and Tohoku Chuo Expressway (Nanyo Takatsuki IC-Yamagata Kamiyama IC) opened in April 2019. ("Connect Expressway Efforts to coexist with the network and the region and the natural environment"reference)

In the metropolitan area, Ken-O Road, Outer ring Expressway Continuing with the development of the network, coupled with the effects of the introduction of a new toll system, the traffic has shifted from the city center to the outer ring road, and traffic on smooth roads has become smoother due to the increased use of short-distance travel at the Metropolitan Expressway. It shows the traffic improvement effect by reducing lost time, shortening travel time, and punctualizing.

These traffic improvements2It also contributes to the suppression of emissions.

CO by relieving congestion at toll booths and main lines2Reduction

Automobiles consume a lot of fuel at low speeds and acceleration. Therefore, promotion of ETC usage and relaxation of congestion on the main line are CO2It will be effective in reducing emissions.

The ETC usage rate in FY2018 was 90%, and the traffic jam loss time near the toll booth decreased by about 98% compared to FY2002 when ETC was first introduced.

On the main line, traffic congestion mitigation measures such as the installation (addition of additional lanes) of additional lanes are implemented where traffic congestion becomes apparent. ("Analyzing the causes of traffic jams and implementing measures to eliminate and mitigate traffic jams"reference)

In addition, we are conducting public relations activities to avoid traffic jams, such as providing traffic jam forecast information as further traffic jam mitigation measures. ("Analyzing the causes of traffic jams and implementing measures to eliminate and mitigate traffic jams"reference)

Energy and material flows associated with business and recycling efforts

The energy used in the NEXCO EAST Group's business is electricity such as tunnel lighting and road facilities, fuel such as maintenance vehicles and snow melting equipment. Also, in highway construction work, we mainly use soil, asphalt / concrete mixture, raw concrete. For construction by-products and waste (garbage) discharged by these projects, we recycle them as much as possible as recyclable resources.

  • 1 Energy input: FY2018 projects
  • 2 Substance input: Total materials (earth and sand, asphalt / concrete, ready-mixed concrete) for construction completed in FY2018
  • 3 Emissions of substances: In addition to the construction by-products stipulated in the Construction Recycling Law for FY2018, garbage collected from SA / PA trash, garbage collected from road surface cleaning, and grass and tree pruning work Aggregation of generated plant material
