Steadily Paving the way for a dedicated network
The expressway sections opened by the NEXCO East Group consist of 39, 496km in length, which led to full opening of Doto Expressway, Joban Expressway, Kita-Kanto Expressway and Tateyama Expressway. Those openings have brought a multitude of benefits, such as improving convenience by cutting driving distance and time, facilitating logistics, energizing regional economies, promoting tourism, and improving emergency medical environments.
Promoting Development of Peripheral Expressways in the Tokyo Metropolitan Area
Of the three expressways that loop around the Tokyo Metropolitan Area, the furthest out is Ken-O Road. It has opened some 190km out of about 300 km in planned total length in the last ten years, and is expected to open 90% of the entire stretch by the end of FY2016. In October 2015, the section between Okegawa Kitamoto interchange (Okegawa-shi in Saitama) to Shiraoka Shobu interchange (Kuki-shi in Saitama) was opened, enabling Tomei Expressway, Chuo Expressway, Kan-Etsu Expressway and Tohoku Expressway to be linked up by Ken-O Road – as a result, many vehicles can avoid inner-city congestions while driving time has been greatly curtailed from Kuki-Shiraoka junction (Tohoku Expressway) to Ebina junction (Tomei Expressway).

Benefits Brought by Expressway Networks (Example of Kita-Kanto Expressway fully opened on 19 March 2011)
Increase in Number of Super Stores
Many large-scale stores have opened up for business within a 5-kilometer radius around each of the interchanges on Kita-Kanto Expressway, expecting a large number of customers resulting from the close proximity of the expressway. In particular, in Gunma prefecture, about 43% of those super stores are located within such 5-kilometer radius.Percentages of super stores found within 5-kilometer radius of Kita-Kanto Expressway interchanges as per all the prefectures along the route
Buildup of Factories Along Route
Throughout the regions along the route of Kita-Kanto Expressway, we have found a flourish of industrial parks being developed as well as companies locating their bases, thanks to the direct access to expressway interchanges (IC). From 1998 onward, the number of factories located in the three prefectures that comprise Kita-Kanto are double the national average, which is a massive difference. Indeed, the consolidation of factories and production bases is in progress, promoting the growing industrial accumulation in the region through Kita-Kanto Expressway.
