NEXCO東日本では、時間信頼性の確保、通行止めの減少や災害・大雪時のネットワークの代替性確保等を目的に暫定2車線区間の4車線化を実施しています。
また、地域生活の充実や地域経済の活性化を推進するため、地元自治体と連携して、追加ICやスマートICも整備しています。
現在NEXCO東日本が管理する新潟エリアの高速道路では、4車線化事業約26㎞、追加スマートIC1箇所の事業を行っています。
