Q1.What is your current job?
Our company manages 328 service areas and parking areas (SAs and PAs) on Expressway, and I am in charge of management, including budget and performance management for all SAs and PAs, and compiling sales revenue. Specifically, I quantitatively analyze actual performance against sales targets and profit targets, and consider measures and policies to achieve those targets.
In addition to the service area and parking area business, we are also responsible for the management of other Expressway related businesses, including businesses utilizing real estate owned by our company, travel businesses, web businesses, and credit card businesses.
Q2.
Is it rewarding?
The Service Area and New Business Division, where I work, is responsible for generating revenue within the company. I've worked in various departments and handled a wide range of tasks, but this is the first time I've been in charge of overseeing the accounting for all commercial facilities within the service areas and parking areas under our company's jurisdiction. Since the commercial facilities are operated by group companies, there are times when policies and ideas differ, but we value daily collaboration so that we can work towards the same numerical targets. I usually work in the office, but I feel a great sense of accomplishment when we achieve our targets as a result of considering measures while being attentive to the feelings of the sales staff and customers on the ground.
Also, this might be a little different from the appeal of my job, but I sometimes go out in the car with my daughter who is in daycare, and when I told her, "This Expressway was built by Daddy's company," she said, "That's cool." I was happy, and at the same time, I felt glad that I work for a company where I can do work that I can be proud of in front of my child.
Q3. Why did you join the company?
As a child, I often used Expressway on family trips, so I felt a connection to Expressway. Also, being from a rural area, I thought that working for this company, which oversees not only the Tokyo metropolitan area but also the entire eastern Japan region, would allow me to contribute to regional areas through my work.
Another contributing factor was my volunteer experience during my student days, where I worked on farms with orphans in Cambodia. There, even in the capital city, orphans were abundant, and I witnessed firsthand the vast difference in living conditions and economic disparities between Cambodia and Japan. This experience made me realize that the environment I had taken for granted would not exist without the people who support it. I wanted to contribute to society through work that supports such daily life, and that's why I applied to this company.
Q4. Have you ever thought that you have grown?
I've been with the company for 14 years and have gained experience in a variety of roles, including road management, traffic management, land management, toll management, and service area operations. Each time I've been transferred, my responsibilities have changed, meaning I sometimes have to learn everything from scratch. However, this has also allowed me to acquire a broad range of business knowledge and significantly broaden my perspective. I believe I've grown by being able to utilize the knowledge and skills I've acquired in my previous departments while also developing a more multifaceted view of things.
Q5. of NEXCO EAST
I love this place!
Have you ever heard the terms cognitive ability and non-cognitive ability? Cognitive ability refers to things like academic ability and IQ, while non-cognitive ability refers to abilities that are difficult to measure numerically, such as proactiveness, perseverance, problem-solving skills, and communication skills. At our company, employees move around to various departments, interact with people of different positions and ages, and gain a lot of experience, which helps to hone their non-cognitive abilities. This kind of work environment is one of our company's strengths, and something I love about it.
Q6. What kind of future do you want to lead?
I sometimes wonder what kind of society our children will live in when they grow up. Although there are various challenges, I hope that the future will be one where today's children can live happily and joyfully. Currently, our company is creating "connections and encounters" between people and people, people and things, and regions and regions through Expressway, and I get very excited just imagining each of these stories. We will continue to manage and operate Expressway in a "safe, secure, comfortable, and convenient" manner, and we hope to weave new "connections and encounters" for the next generation.

My second child was recently born, bringing our family size to four. I didn't take parental leave when my first child was born, but this time I took two weeks of parental leave. Even after returning from leave, I'm actively involved in childcare, such as changing diapers and feeding the baby. I also take my older child out occasionally to create memories during their last year of daycare.
