Response to accidents on Expressway
If an accident or breakdown occurs in the evacuation zone near the Joban Tomioka IC to Namie IC on Joban Expressway
Although you are within the evacuation zone, please follow the procedures below, just as you would in the event of a normal accident or breakdown.
Waiting inside a car is extremely dangerous. You could be involved in a secondary accident, such as being rear-ended.
Please be sure to evacuate to a safe place, such as outside the guardrail.

If you are forced to stop due to an accident or other unavoidable circumstances, please do not walk around on the main road or shoulder.
- Expressway are different from regular roads! Please absolutely refrain from acting with the same mindset. You could be involved in an unexpected accident.

Turn on your hazard lights to signal to following vehicles.
Use flares and warning triangles to signal further!

Drivers and passengers should all get out of the vehicle, paying attention to oncoming traffic, and quickly evacuate to a safe place such as outside the guardrail.
- Waiting inside or in front of/behind a car is extremely dangerous!

Please report the accident or breakdown situation by calling 110, using an emergency phone, or using the road emergency hotline (#9910, which can also be dialed from mobile phones).
Points to note regarding radiation levels
- NEXCO EAST In the evacuation zone near the Joban-Tomioka IC to Namie IC on Joban Expressway, if a customer is unable to drive himself/herself due to an accident or breakdown, we arrange for a tow truck, etc., so that the customer and his/her passengers can leave the scene and be transported to the nearest IC as soon as possible.
- When waiting outside the road, please avoid bushes and puddles where radioactive materials tend to accumulate. Furthermore, as a measure to reduce radiation exposure, we are working to minimize customer exposure by implementing concrete sealing (15cm thick).
- If you would like to check the ambient radiation levels at the location, please ask the traffic control officer who has arrived. Also, if you are waiting outside your vehicle and are concerned about strong winds or dust, please let us know and we have masks available.
