Travel
If Expressway is extensively maintained, it will be possible to move to various places more conveniently and in a short time. For example, Gaikan Expressway connects Misato Minami Interchange in Saitama Prefecture with the Takaya Junction in Chiba Prefecture, making it easier to reach leisure facilities and shopping malls in the bay area and resorts in the Boso area from a wider area. (For example, the travel time from Tsukuba to Tokyo Disney Resort has been shortened by about 18 minutes. It is now possible to access without going through the city center.) You can also enjoy souvenirs and local specialties at service areas that you stop by during your trip. We are working to transform it from a mere “rest facility” to a “commercial facility” that serves as a travel destination. The work of NEXCO EAST is also connected to making memories of safe and enjoyable trips for everyone.
Regional activation
Location of companies and factories
The construction of Expressway will increase the number of people coming and going to areas that have been difficult to access, and will promote the location of various companies and factories, leading to regional revitalization. Specifically, with the opening of Kita-Kanto Expressway, the number of factory locations in the three northern Kanto prefectures has increased 6.5 times compared to 1995, more than double the national average. It also contributes to job creation and population growth in the surrounding areas. In addition, with the aim of contributing to the revitalization of the region and the efficiency of logistics, we are working on the development of smart interchanges based on the requests of local governments. In order to make the industries and regions of eastern Japan more vibrant and more convenient, Expressway greatly contributes to the location support of companies and factories as a main artery.
medical assistance
ambulance transportation
In some cases, such as when the patient's symptoms suddenly worsen or when specialized treatment is required, the patient must be transported to a distant advanced medical institution instead of a local medical institution. With the installation of an exit road for ambulances on Aomori Expressway, the number of people who can access the Aomori Prefectural Central Hospital in 60 minutes has increased by 190,000 people compared to before the installation. By using Expressway for emergency transportation, we contribute to reducing the burden on patients by shortening transportation time and avoiding sharp curves and traffic jams.
medical assistance
blood transport
Tohoku Expressway contributes to the efficiency of the blood business in the Tohoku region. Before the opening of Tohoku Expressway Tohoku Expressway each prefecture had a blood product manufacturing plant. has become possible to manufacture.
Currently, 8,800 shipments are made annually to six prefectures in the Tohoku region, and about 350,000 blood products for transfusion are transported to medical institutions.
Logistics support
Transportation of fresh food
Another important role of Expressway is to stably transport delicious vegetables and fruits from production areas while they are still fresh. Expressway account for more than 70% of Japan's land freight transportation volume, which is 7.7 times that of railways (converted ton-km). With the realization of four lanes for all sections Joshin-Etsu Expressway, the stability of distribution to the 30 supermarkets in Niigata, Nagano, and Toyama, which deliver products from the distribution center, has dramatically improved. In addition, the opening of Tohoku-Chuo Expressway, which has few steep slopes, has made it possible to deliver products such as La France, cherries, and grapes from Yamagata Prefecture to the Kanto area without damage.
Logistics support
online shopping
Due to Large the new coronavirus infection, online shopping has become more frequently used in recent years regardless of age. According to a survey by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, the percentage of households using online shopping will exceed 50% for the first time in 2021. In recent years, the opening of Gaikan Expressway and Tohoku-Chuo Expressway and the expansion of Joban Expressway to four lanes have shortened transportation distances and time, and improved punctuality, helping to reduce the burden on drivers. The reason why you can get your shopping done on your PC or smartphone as soon as possible the next day or the day after that is because the delivery drivers use Expressway day and night to carry your luggage.
Disaster response
Disaster recovery
The Great East Japan Earthquake that occurred in March 2011. Immediately after the earthquake, NEXCO EAST carried out emergency road inspections, and in the early morning of the next day, we gradually completed temporary restoration to enable emergency vehicles to pass, mainly on major routes such as Tohoku Expressway. In response to this, relief vehicles of the Self-Defense Forces became available, and after 11 days, emergency restoration of about 93% of the total 870 km section of the damaged Expressway was completed. NEXCO EAST has a "Disaster Prevention and Crisis Management Team", and every time a disaster occurs, we verify its response and share it internally. We have accumulated know-how within the company, and because each and every employee knows what to do in case of emergency, we are able to work together in times of disaster to contribute to the speedy recovery of the "road of life." increase.
Disaster response
Snow and ice measures
NEXCO EAST manages many areas with severe winter weather conditions, and snow and ice countermeasures are an important issue for customers to use Expressway safely, securely, and comfortably. Based on the heavy snowfall in 2020 that caused vehicles to stagnate on Kan-Etsu Expressway, from fiscal 2021, the basic concept is to "prioritize human life and thoroughly avoid large-scale vehicle stagnation on the main roads." We are taking measures against snow and ice. When heavy snow is expected, we carry out planned road closures to prevent vehicles from stagnation, and we also carry out continuous snow removal work to secure traffic as soon as possible. In preparation for snow damage, we will continue to strengthen cooperation with related organizations.
