Specific Renewal and Other Construction Work (Large-Scale Renewal and Repair) Plan and Status of Implementation

In addition to deterioration due to aging, the deterioration of structures has become apparent due to harsh usage conditions such as an increase in large vehicles and increased distances through snowy, cold regions and coastal areas. In order to ensure the long-term soundness of Expressway, specific renewal work has been planned and formulated, and work has been underway since fiscal 2015.
In order to proceed with specific renewal work, traffic restrictions such as road closures and two-way traffic are required in each area. To ensure that the purpose and necessity of the project are fully understood and widely disseminated throughout society, the "Expressway Renewal Project" has been adopted as the common name for the project among Expressway companies. As of the end of March 2024, large-scale bridge renewal (deck slabs) has reached 24 km on a contract extension basis, 55% progress. In order to further promote progress, we will continue to consult with relevant organizations and carry out construction work to advance the project, as well as develop new technologies and strengthen our systems and information provision.
