Partial drop of joint material from the box culvert between Joban Expressway Tsuchiura Kita interchange and Chiyoda Ishioka interchange

NEXCO EAST Kanto Regional Head Office (Taito-ku, Tokyo) manages Joban Expressway Tsuchiura-Kita interchange to Chiyoda-Ishioka interchange box culvert, which is the joint material (elastite) installed at the box culvert. Some of them fell into a parked car.

No one was hurt by this.

1 History of discovery

Sunday, October 20, 2013 At around 9 am, a local inhabitant stopped the car on the road inside the box culvert, and the joint material (elastite) fell on the roof of the car. The one that the police contacted us and confirmed the site.

4 Cause of fall

It is assumed that this is due to the deterioration of joint material (elastite) over time.

5 Response status of the box culvert

Due to the occurrence of an event, an emergency inspection was conducted on October 20, and safety confirmation has been completed.
