East Nippon Expressway Co., Ltd.

It was announced that an illegal passer-by who had repeatedly run away without paying the toll was arrested by the Kanagawa Prefectural Police today (August 22) on suspicion of violating the Road Maintenance Special Measures Law.

Due to the revision of the Road Maintenance Special Measures Law on October 1, 2005 in line with the privatization of four road-related corporations, the toll gate was passed in violation of the traffic method (authorized by the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism) established by the Expressway company. Criminal penalties will be imposed on drivers of cars and other vehicles.

In response to the amendment of the law, the arrest of this time repeated illegal traffic such as throwing a free traffic declaration at the toll gate to the staff, so the company was told by the Kanagawa Prefectural Police Expressway Traffic Police Corps. It was triggered by the report, and this is the first case of arrest in our jurisdiction.

We believe that the arrest of a suspect who has repeatedly carried out malicious and illegal traffic will ensure fairness in the burden of charges and prevent unauthorized traffic.

We have always taken the stance of "no unauthorized traffic" so as not to damage customers' trust in the toll road business. We will continue to take a resolute attitude toward illegal traffic and will actively cooperate with police investigations to tackle illegal traffic.

The suspect will confirm the toll charges for approximately 150 illegal tolls, and will bill the toll charges and surcharges (twice the amount exempted) that were illegally exempted.
