We would like to inform you that the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism has announced that the free Expressway travel for those who have evacuated from restricted areas due to the nuclear accident will be extended until the end of March 2027.
【Overview】
- The free Expressway travel allowance for evacuees from restricted areas due to the nuclear accident will be extended until Wednesday, March 31, 2027.
- Since some users have been found to be using the vehicle for business or commercial purposes, which is inconsistent with the original intent and purpose of the system, we have limited the eligible vehicles to medium-sized vehicles and smaller since April 2022.However, since there are still cases of use that appears to be for business or commercial purposes, we have been excluding truck-type medium-sized vehicles from the scope of the free service since September 2025.
- Approximately 14 years have passed since the special measures were implemented, and evacuation orders have already been lifted across the entire area in several municipalities. In light of this, we will continue to consider the future shape of the system, including setting an end date.

New) Until midnight on Wednesday, March 31, 2027
2. Regarding use after April 1, 2026
The currently used "Hometown Return Pass Card (Green) (including the certificate related to the travel route if you have one)" will continue to be valid from April 1, 2026 onwards.
