-Efforts toward the formation of a recycling-based society-

June 27, 2008
East Nippon Expressway Co., Ltd.
Hokkaido Regional Head Office

NEXCO EAST Hokkaido Regional Head Office (Atsubetsu-ku, Sapporo, Regional Head Office Director: Yuki Yamamoto) will be on and off Sasson Expressway Kanayama parking area (PA) from Tuesday, July 1st. We would like to inform you that we will install a "waste cooking oil collection box" on the line and start collecting used cooking oil from homes.

Amid urgent needs to address global warming and resource/energy problems, we are promoting recycling toward the formation of a recycling-based society. As part of this effort, we will set up a "waste cooking oil collection box" as a collection base for the household waste cooking oil resource promotion project implemented by the Sapporo City "Garbage Reduction Practice Activity Network (Sapporo Slim Net)".

The used cooking oil collected in the "Waste cooking oil collection box" is processed into biodiesel fuel and used as an alternative fuel to light oil. This biodiesel fuel is carbon neutral (CO 2 CO due to absorption and combustion 2 Emissions are offset by CO 2 Does not increase) and CO 2 It is attracting attention as a fuel that is kind to the global environment because it leads to emission control.

This will be Japan's first attempt to install a waste cooking oil collection box for general customers at a rest facility on an Expressway. In addition, we plan to expand such activities in the future.
