NEXCO EAST Hokkaido Regional Head Office (Atsubetsu-ku, Sapporo) has compiled the following information on traffic conditions in Hokkaido during the year-end and New Year holidays [2024 Friday, December 27 through Sunday, January 5, 2025: 10 days].
- Average daily traffic volume was 100% compared to the same period last year.
- There were 16 traffic jams of over 1 km in length, 13 more than during the same period last year. This year, many of the traffic jams were caused by road closures due to snowstorms and accidents.
- The maximum congestion length is
On Friday, January 3rd at 12:00, a 4.0km road was broken due to an accident on the E5 Do-o Expressway Eniwa Interchange (IC) to Out-bound Smart IC (bound for Sapporo)
The 4.0km accident occurred at 3:35 p.m. on Friday, January 3rd, on the E5 Do-o Expressway Eniwa IC to Watatsu Smart IC (Out-bound, towards Sapporo) due to traffic congestion.
