NEXCO EAST Hokkaido Regional Head Office (Atsubetsu Ward, Sapporo City) and the Hokkaido Prefectural Police Traffic Department Expressway Traffic Police Unit (Atsubetsu Ward, Sapporo City) will be conducting a winter accident prevention campaign for Expressway users, with the aim of preventing slippage accidents and rear-end collisions caused by poor visibility due to snow accumulation, ice, and blizzards.
1. Emiri Nakagawa appointed "One-Day Expressway Patrol Captain"
(1) Appointment Ceremony for Ms. Emiri Nakagawa as "One-Day Expressway Patrol Commander"
NEXCO東日本イメージキャラクターの中川絵美里さんが北海道警察高速道路交通警察隊（高速隊）の「1日高速隊長」に就任して、交通安全を呼びかけます。
NEXCO東日本北海道支社にて委嘱式を実施し、高速隊長より委嘱状を交付します。

キャスターとして、TBS「情報7daysニュースキャスター」、DAZN「PICK UP MATCH」などに出演し、侍ジャパン中継でのMCなども担当している、中川絵美里さんが「1日高速隊長」を務めます。
中川絵美里さんは2022年から、NEXCO東日本のイメージキャラクターとして、高速道路リニューアル工事のテレビCM出演を始め、現場取材や各種イベントへの登壇などを通じて、インフラの重要性や高速道路の安全性について、わかりやすく丁寧に発信いただいています。
(2) Traffic safety awareness campaign at Watatsu PA with Emiri Nakagawa
After the commissioning ceremony, novelties will be distributed and traffic safety awareness activities will be held at the Watatsu PA on the Do-o Expressway (In-bound, towards Hakodate).

(3) Traffic safety awareness campaign held on the Sapporo Snow Festival stage
On the Sapporo Snow Festival stage, "One-Day Expressway Patrol Captain" Nakagawa Emi, along with the Hokkaido Prefectural Police Expressway Patrol and NEXCO EAST Traffic Management Unit, will be conducting a traffic safety awareness campaign by asking quizzes.

2. Winter accident prevention campaign
A traffic safety campaign will be held at SAs and PAs across Hokkaido to prevent winter accidents. In collaboration with the Hokkaido Prefectural Police Highway Patrol, the campaign will encourage safe driving with an awareness of preventing winter accidents through street awareness campaigns and the distribution of novelty items.

3. Prevent winter accidents! Re-check the precautions for driving on winter roads!
Areas where winter accidents are likely to occur
When driving on Expressway in winter, be careful of slipping accidents as shady roads, bridges, and tunnel entrances and exits may be frozen.
In addition, on long Out-bound, it is easy to pick up speed without realizing it, making them areas where rear-end collisions are likely to occur, so it is important to pay attention to your speed and the distance between cars. Furthermore, before curves, sudden steering or braking can easily cause slippage accidents, so it is important to slow down early and maintain a safe distance between cars.
Tips for driving Expressway in winter
- Driving with "sudden" movements is strictly prohibited
Even if there is no snowfall, the roads may be frozen due to the difference in temperature between morning and evening. Please refrain from sudden driving such as sudden starts, sudden steering, and sudden braking, as there is a risk of your car slipping and losing control.
- Maintain a safe distance from other vehicles
Snowy and icy roads are slippery, many times more so than dry roads in other times of winter. If you do not keep a sufficient distance between vehicles, there is a risk that you will not be able to stop when the car in front of you slows down and you will rear-end the vehicle, so in winter, you should keep a larger distance between vehicles than in summer.
- What to do when encountering a whiteout
一瞬にして視界が真っ白になり見えなくなるホワイトアウトは、晴れていても強風時の地吹雪や、雪粒子の太陽の光の反射により発生することもあります。
ホワイトアウト遭遇時は、減速し十分な車間距離を確保するとともに、ヘッドライトやハザードランプを点灯し、前後の車との追突事故を防ぎましょう。

In winter, the maximum speed on Expressway may be limited to 50-80km/h due to worsening road conditions and poor visibility. To ensure your own safety, please observe the winter speed limits.
- Check weather and road information before and while you're out!
Be sure to check the weather forecast and road information frequently for several days before your trip, and drive with peace of mind. Also, because the weather in winter can change quickly, be sure to check the information frequently after you leave!
To check Expressway information, please make use of NEXCO EAST 's "DraPla" and "DraTra" as well as the official X-LINE, which are convenient services.
Additionally, the Hokkaido Regional Head Office has produced short vertical videos summarizing points to be aware of when driving on winter roads. Each video is about 30 seconds long, allowing you to easily check the points you need to be careful of when driving on winter roads.
