  • About the arrest of illegal passers-by who broke through the toll booth Unauthorized motorcycle traffic in the first ETC lane in Japan was detected

July 17, 2007
East Nippon Expressway Co., Ltd.
Kanto Regional Head Office

Today (July 17th), an unauthorized passer-by who repeatedly broke through a motorcycle without paying a toll at the Yokohama-Shindo Road Imai Toll Gate was accused of violating the Road Maintenance Special Measures Law on the same day with the Kanagawa Prefectural Police. There was an announcement that he was arrested.

This matter was immediately reported to the Kanagawa Prefectural Police Expressway Traffic Police Corps since around May this year, several ETC lanes at the tollgates such as Yokohama-Shindo Road were confirmed to have been forced to break by the same motorcycle. It led to today's arrest.

It should be noted that this is the first case in Japan of an arrest for a motorcycle assault on an ETC lane.

For illegal tolls by the suspect, we will add a surcharge (twice the amount exempted) to the illegally exempted toll and charge three times the illegally exempted toll.

We have always been using an unauthorized traffic surveillance camera and other measures to prevent unauthorized traffic, so as not to damage customers' trust in the toll road business. We will continue to take a resolute attitude toward illegal traffic and will actively cooperate with police investigations to tackle illegal traffic.

About ETC lane traffic (please)

When riding, make sure that the ETC card is inserted into the vehicle-mounted device surely and that it operates normally, keep a sufficient distance between vehicles and enter the ETC lane at a speed of 20 km/h or less and drive slowly. .. If the opening/closing bar does not open, never call the car back and call the staff member via the intercom. (However, in the case of a two-wheeled vehicle, pay close attention to the opening/closing bar and the following vehicles, check the safety, and avoid the opening/closing bar and make an emergency evacuation from the ETC lane.)

If "STOP" is displayed but you still push the open/close bar to pass through, please contact us as follows.

  1. If you have passed the entrance ETC lane (a toll gate that issues toll tickets)
ETC lanes are not available at the exit toll gates, so please proceed to the regular lane or mixed lane where there is a staff member and tell us so.
  2. If you have passed through the exit ETC lane
