The construction of the Tohoku Expressway Sano SA Smart Interchange (IC), which NEXCO EAST Kanto Regional Head Office (Taito-ku, Tokyo) has been promoting with Tochigi Prefecture, etc., will be completed, and it will open on Thursday, April 28, 2011. I have decided, so I will inform you. This is the third smart IC open in Tochigi prefecture, following Kamikawachi and Nasu Kogen.
This smart IC is a full IC that allows you to go in and out of Tokyo and Utsunomiya, and you can use all models equipped with ETC on-board equipment (however, the total length is 12 m or less).
The access road was maintained by Tochigi Prefecture and Sano City.

- Revitalization of the area
In the area around Sano SA, there are industrial parks such as "Sano Industrial Park", "Sano Inter Industrial Park", and tourist facilities such as "Mikamoyama Park" and "Manyo Nature Park Katakuri no Sato". It is expected that the area will be revitalized by improving convenience such as commuting to and from the office and streamlining logistics. - Relieving congestion by distributing traffic
On Route 50, which is connected to the Sano Fujioka IC, there is congestion due to cars heading for large commercial facilities in the city of Sano and the new urban area of Sano, and congestion has also occurred, but with the opening of the Sano SA Smart IC, the city of Sano Traffic will be dispersed due to improved access to areas such as Sano Fujioka IC and Route 50, which is expected to reduce congestion. - Enhancement of local living environment
With the opening of the Sano SA Smart IC, it is expected to secure high speed and punctuality as an emergency transportation route to higher medical institutions. In addition, it is expected that the transportation time to higher medical institutions will be shortened and that quick and reliable emergency activities will be realized.
8 When using Sano SA Smart IC
- This is a stop-only ETC IC, so be sure to stop it before the gate.
- After using the Sano SA Out-bound from the Tohoku Expressway (towards Tokyo), you cannot use the smart IC exit of the Sano SA Out-bound.
- After using Sano SA In-bound from Tohoku Expressway (bound for Utsunomiya), you can use the smart IC exit of Sano SA In-bound.
