Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology (Minato Ward, Tokyo), East Nippon Expressway Co., Ltd. Kanto Regional Head Office (Saitama City, Saitama Prefecture) and Trans-Tokyo Bay Highway Co. (Ota Ward, Tokyo) have signed an agreement on industry-academia collaboration on March 20, 2015. Signed on Friday.

1. Purpose

By utilizing the research and development capabilities, human resources, and equipment of each institution in a complementary manner, we aim to promote research on the Tokyo Wan Aqua-Line Expressway and the social utilization of research results.

2 Contents of industry-academia collaboration

  • Implementation of joint research, etc., and mutual exchange between researchers and engineers
  • Utilize research and research results that make use of regional characteristics
  • Promotion of education and human resource development and mutual support
  • Other matters necessary to achieve the purpose of this agreement

1 Purpose of conclusion

Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology, East Japan Expressway Co., Ltd., and Tokyo Bay Transit Road Co., Ltd. have cooperated with each other in terms of ship navigation safety and environmental conservation at the construction and management stage of Tokyo Wan Aqua-Line Expressway.・Although we have cooperated, we have decided to conclude this agreement because of the momentum to develop the cooperation system systematically and continuously.

By complementarily utilizing the research and development capabilities, human resources, and equipment of each institution, we will tackle aging measures and environmental conservation of the Tokyo Wan Aqua-Line Expressway, which is an offshore structure.

Regarding the specific content of cooperation, we will proceed with discussions and decide in what form to promote the efforts.

2 Possible cooperation cases

(1) Mutual cooperation in surveys and research on aging measures and environmental protection measures at Tokyo Wan Aqua-Line Expressway

  • Environmental research at Umihotaru PA
  • Study on anticorrosion technology of marine works
  • Study on inspection and investigation of underwater structure using robot
