We have recently partnered with the Fujishiro Seiji Museum of Art (hereinafter referred to as the Fujishiro Seiji Museum), a general incorporated association that supports the purpose of this initiative, to designate the area as a smartphone stamp rally spot. We are also pleased to announce that as a special perk for the "Northern Kanto Tour Free Pass and Smartphone Stamp Rally," we have prepared postcards of Fujishiro Seiji's new work, "Fujishiro Seiji 101: Living with Abby," which was completed in April of this year.
Mr. Seiji Fujishiro is highly acclaimed both in Japan and overseas as a shadow puppet artist, and has been appointed "Tochigi Light Art Goodwill Ambassador" to promote the charms of Tochigi Prefecture. Please take home a special piece that captures the fantastical worldview of master shadow puppeteer Seiji Fujishiro as a memento of your trip.

4. About Seiji Fujishiro

Mr. Seiji Fujishiro
Japan's leading shadow puppet artist

Born in Tokyo in 1924, he graduated from the Faculty of Economics at Keio University and entered the Keio Normal School, where he learned painting and etching from Kinpei Senba. At Keio University Preparatory School (High School), he studied under Genichiro Inokuma and Kazuo Wakita. He had been performing puppet shows since then, but after the war he returned to university and devoted himself to painting and creating puppet shows. It was around this time that he encountered Asian shadow puppetry, which had a major influence on his creative work.
After graduating, he was recognized by Yasuji Hanamori, editor-in-chief of the magazine "Kurashi no Techo," and began serializing his shadow puppets in the magazine in 1948. In 1961, he founded a life-size stuffed animal puppet show, which was performed at the Mokubaza Theatre. The TV program "Mokubaza Hour" became an explosive hit, and the character "Keroyon," who became a national idol, is still beloved today.
In addition, his shadow play "Night on the Galactic Railroad" was highly praised both at home and abroad, and he has since performed shadow plays in countries around the world.
In recognition of his achievements, he was awarded the Medal with Purple Ribbon and the Order of the Rising Sun, Fourth Class, Gold Rays with Rosette. For his picture books, he won the Golden Apple Award at the BIB International Children's Book Fair in Czechoslovakia in 1983. He has written many books, including "The Mysterious Journey of the Wine Bottle," and has received high praise from around the world. In 2004, he held a solo exhibition in New York and Washington, USA, which was featured in the New York Times and the Washington Post. The following year, he held his first exhibition in Korea. Since then, he has been actively holding exhibitions at art museums all over the country.
