NEXCO EAST Kanto Regional Head Office (Saitama City, Saitama Prefecture) conducted its first winter tire installation survey on Wednesday, December 3 and Sunday, December 7 at rest facilities in its jurisdiction to encourage early installation of winter tires and safe driving on snow-covered roads.
The average winter tire installation rate was 46.7% for light vehicles, 80.2% for heavy vehicles, and 57.8% for all vehicle types. Compared to the same period last year (2024 conducted on December 4 (Wed.) and 8 (Sun.), the installation rate for compact cars increased slightly, but less than half of the customers did not install winter tires, and the installation rate for large cars declined, as well as for all vehicle types. Driving on snowy or icy roads with normal tires is against the law.
Even in the metropolitan area, where snow does not usually fall, frozen roads and snowfall can occur.
