NEXCO EAST Mito Management Office (Mito City, Ibaraki Prefecture) is collaborating with Kairakuen Garden, one of Japan's three most famous gardens, to create a Kairakuen plum garden at the Tomobe Service Area (Tomobe SA) (In-bound) on the E6 Joban Expressway (Joban Expressway).
This initiative is based on our company philosophy of "Connecting the community, connecting with the community, connecting to the future." By planting plum trees (Yae Kanbeni) provided by Kairakuen and developing them into a plum garden, we aim to provide a refreshing experience for Expressway users, as well as promote tourism in Ibaraki Prefecture and promote regional collaboration.
An opening ceremony will be held to mark the completion of the Plum Garden.

3. About the plums provided by Kairakuen to NEXCO EAST

Variety:

​Yaekankou (Mito Plum Blossom Collection *)

Overview:

A double, medium-sized flower that blooms early. The round, crimson petals are triple-layered, with the inner petals slightly concave. The fragrance is a blend of wild plum and apricot. This flower heralds the arrival of early spring.

  • It is registered under the National Collection Certification System established by the Japan Association of Botanical Gardens (President: Crown Prince Akishino).
