NEXCO EAST Niigata Regional Head Office (Chuo-ku, Niigata City) will have winter tires at service areas (SA) and parking areas (PA) at four Expressway such as Niigata Prefecture from Monday, November 21 to Tuesday, November 22. We carried out a wearing rate survey.
As a result, the winter tire installation rate was 42% on average for all vehicles, 61% for large vehicles, and 37% for small vehicles, both of which were low compared to the first survey last year.
This survey is conducted with the aim of urging early replacement of winter tires and raising awareness of safe driving on snowy roads by announcing the results in time with the arrival of full-scale winter. Is done weekly until it reaches 90%.
1 Outline of the winter tire installation rate survey
[Survey method]
- Surveyor visually confirms the tire type of the vehicle parked in the SA / PA surveyed
- Investigate about 50 units at one location
- Large vehicles are oversized vehicles, large vehicles, medium-sized vehicles, and small vehicles are regular vehicles and light vehicles classified by charge type.
* The number of vehicles surveyed may change depending on how the parking lot is used.

3 Request from NEXCO EAST Niigata branch office
- Please put on early winter tires before snowfall.
Even on Expressway prefecture, we are observing the first snow in the mountainous areas on November 8th and performing snow removal work.
It is expected that snow will fall in the plains in the future, so please replace it with winter tires early. - Please drive slowly and safely when driving on snowy roads.
At the beginning of the snow season, driving sensations on snowy roads have not been restored, and even with winter tires, there is a tendency to cause traffic accidents.
Make sure to keep the distance between vehicles more than usual, and keep your speed down. Do not perform operations with "sudden" such as "sudden steering wheel," "accelerated acceleration," or "sudden braking" and drive slowly and safely. - I would like to "collect frequent information before and after going out".
Due to the sudden change of weather on the winter Expressway it may be snowing at the destination or the passing point even if the departure place is sunny, so please wear winter tires and carry a tire chain.
Also, check the road information and weather information frequently before going out or in the service area.
