NEXCO EAST Niigata Regional Head Office (Chuo-ku, Niigata City) and the 2nd Infantry Regiment of the Takada Garrison of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (Joetsu City, Niigata Prefecture) will conduct a disaster coordination training exercise simulating a landslide caused by heavy rain on Thursday, August 21, 2025, on the premises of Ojiya Interchange (IC) on the E17 Kan-Etsu Expressway (Kan-Etsu Expressway).
This is the eighth time this training has been held, and is based on the "Implementation Agreement on Cooperation between the Eastern Army of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force and East Nippon Expressway Co., Ltd.." It involves training on restoring road bumps and rescuing vehicle occupants, and aims to confirm mutual cooperation in the event of a disaster.

Content
Intermittent rainfall occurred in the Chuetsu region of Niigata Prefecture (Nagaoka City, Mitsuke City, Sanjo City), causing the collapse of an embankment on Expressway. A rear-end collision also occurred, with some vehicles caught in the collapse and stranded on the main road. As a result, at the request of the Niigata Prefecture Governor, the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force was dispatched to the disaster area to conduct (1) training on the opening of a Self-Defense Force facility within the grounds of Ojiya Interchange, (2) mutual coordination meetings and road level restoration training, and (3) training on rescuing occupants from vehicles.
