NEXCO EAST Kanto Regional Head Office (Saitama City, Saitama Prefecture) and Niigata Regional Head Office (Niigata City, Niigata Prefecture) are pleased to announce that they have compiled a report on the maintenance benefits of the E17 Kan-Etsu Expressway (hereinafter referred to as the "Kan-Etsu Expressway"), which will mark the 40th anniversary of its full opening on Thursday, October 2, 2025.
We will be holding events and campaigns to inform regular Expressway Kan-Etsu Expressway its opening to the present and its effects, and to convey our gratitude, so please come and join us.

1. Typical benefits of the development

  • History of Kan-Etsu Expressway (Page 3 [PDF: 800KB])
    Approximately 3.5 billion units will be used between the time of launch and 2024.
  • Reducing the time required (Page 4 [PDF: 1.0MB])
    Travel time between Tokyo and Niigata reduced by approximately 4 hours and 30 minutes
  • Economic Ripple Effects (Page 6 [PDF: 1.3MB])
    The economic ripple effect (change in production value) is expected to be approximately 13 trillion yen over the 40 years following the full opening of the line.
  • Ensuring Traffic in the Event of a Disaster or Road Closure (Page 8 [PDF: 1.0MB])
    Supporting relief and reconstruction efforts by ensuring early access to roads during the Chuetsu earthquake
    When Tohoku Expressway Expressway is closed, Kan-Etsu Expressway serves as a detour
  • Large sales channels for agricultural products, etc. (Page 9 [PDF: 1.1MB])
    Contributing to Large the share of agricultural products in the areas along the railway line
  • Increased pedestrian flow due to express buses (Page 12 [PDF: 1.0MB])
    The number of bus users between Tokyo and Niigata has increased by approximately 23 times.
  • Contributing to tourism along the railway line (Page 13 [PDF: 1.1MB])
    The number of tourists visiting Niigata and Gunma prefectures increased by approximately 1.5 times

2. Logo mark commemorating the 40th anniversary of the opening of the entire Kan-Etsu Expressway

The color scheme evokes the beautiful mountain ranges along Kan-Etsu Expressway Expressway and combines our corporate color, and the "40th" symbol expresses familiarity.

3. Events and Campaigns

(1) Launch of special website

We have launched a special website to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the opening of the entire Kan-Etsu Expressway. The website introduces the progress made since the opening of the entire Kan-Etsu Expressway, the effects of the construction work, as well as tourist spots and gourmet information along Kan-Etsu Expressway Expressway, so please take a look!

(2) Gift Campaign (Calling for memorable stories)

We are looking for memorable stories related to Kan-Etsu Expressway and the areas along it on the special website mentioned above.
We will randomly select 40 people who submit their stories and give them local specialties from the area, so please apply.

(3) Campaigns at SAs and PAs

  1. We will be holding a Kan-Etsu Expressway product exhibition featuring souvenirs from Kan-Etsu Expressway Expressway. This is a rare opportunity to purchase souvenirs that are not normally available, so please be sure to stop by when you are out and about.

(4) Events commemorating the 40th anniversary of the opening of the entire line

Kan-Etsu Expressway The event will be held to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the opening of the entire line in order to deepen the understanding of the effects of the maintenance of the new line and to express our gratitude to the people in the communities along the line.
The event will include a panel display of the effects of the maintenance, PR booths of local governments along the line, a meet and greet with local characters, stage performances by local groups, and many other fun activities. We look forward to seeing you there.
