NEXCO EAST Tohoku Regional Head Office (Aoba Ward, Sendai City) predicts congestion due to traffic concentration on Expressway in the Tohoku region during the Obon period [12 days from Wednesday, August 8 to Sunday, August 19, 2012]. I summarized it.

Please use the traffic congestion prediction information and make a leisurely travel plan such as avoiding traffic congestion by decentralizing the use of Expressway before and after the day or time when traffic congestion is predicted.

1 Congestion prediction

Every year, Expressway in the Tohoku region are congested due to summer festival tourism and the concentration of passengers spending their Obon holidays in their hometowns.

This year's Obon period, Tohoku Expressway 10km or more of a traffic jam in is, 24 times (Out-bound line 10 times, In-bound line 14 times) occurs, traffic jam, especially more than 30km, in Fukushima, Miyagi Prefecture, Out-bound August 11 in line It is predicted that it will occur on Saturday, 12th (Sun), and on the In-bound line on August 15th (Wednesday) and 16th (Thursday). (Attachments 1 and 2 [PDF:244KB] reference)

[Congestion prediction method]

Congestion prediction takes into account traffic trends, and based on past congestion records and changes in traffic volume, excludes congestion caused by unusual events such as accidents and traffic closures, and predicts the time and place of congestion occurrence. .

5 Request from NEXCO EAST Tohoku Regional Head Office

  • Currently, the restoration work of the damaged area due to the Great East Japan Earthquake (paving work is scheduled to be completed in December this year) is ongoing, and there are steps and undulations on some sections, so be careful please.
  • Recently, the number of fallen objects is increasing on the Expressway.
Prior to departure, please fix the load, drive too fast, and pay close attention to the distance between vehicles when riding.
  • If the distance between vehicles is short and the vehicle is congested, it may cause traffic jams.
  • Since many rear-end collision accidents occur in the traffic jam section, if you confirm a front-side traffic jam, please turn on the hazard lamp and cooperate with the following vehicle to prevent a rear-end collision accident.
  • Fatigue tends to accumulate when driving at night or for long hours.
There are many fatal accidents, so take appropriate breaks using SA etc. and try to drive safely.
  • In the unlikely event of an accident or malfunction, please evacuate to a safe place, such as outside the guardrail, and contact us.
  • Expressway it is mandatory to wear seat belts for all seats including the rear seats, so please wear them.
  • Please refuel and use the toilet as soon as possible before using the Expressway or before traffic jams.
