Background to the start of the demonstration experiment

There are two main routes for driving from the Boso Peninsula towards central Tokyo: the Aqua-Line route and the Keiyo-Tateyama route. The "AI Traffic Jam Prediction" currently offered for the CA Aqua-Line, E14 Keiyo Road, and E14 Tateyama Expressway has been well-received by many customers on each route, but there were many requests to know which of the multiple routes would get you there faster, which led to the start of a demonstration experiment. Going forward, we plan to proceed with consideration for full-scale implementation, based on the effectiveness verification of the demonstration experiment and customer feedback.
This service aims to alleviate congestion by dispersing traffic by avoiding traffic jams when heading from the Boso Peninsula towards central Tokyo.

Sections for which estimated travel times are provided

To allow customers heading from Boso towards central Tokyo via roads within the jurisdiction of the Shuto Expressway to choose the best route, the following three routes have been selected as destinations frequently used by many customers from the Aqua-Line Route and the Keiyo/Tateyama Route.

How the AI Route Judge works

Docomo's "AI Congestion Prediction" technology, which has previously enabled "AI Congestion Prediction" on the CA Aqua Line and E14 Keiyo Road, has been combined with NEXCO EAST 's traffic engineering knowledge and know-how to produce prediction results. This will be combined with "Tracking Time Sum* 2" data for each time period on each route, based on traffic statistics data from Metropolitan Expressway Co., Ltd., to predict the required travel time for each route and distribute the comparison results.

  2. The sum of tracking times is the total travel time for a vehicle departing from a specific point at a specific time, based on the travel time for each time and each section, taking into account the impact of the movement.
