Overview of Sustainability Finance

NEXCO EAST has received a third-party evaluation for sustainability finance from Rating and Investment Information, Inc. (R&I).

Sustainability finance is a method of raising funds aimed at funding projects that solve social and environmental issues.

Since June 2019, NEXCO EAST has been using funds raised through social finance to fund Expressway projects, working to resolve social issues such as regional revitalization, disaster prevention, promoting road safety, and environmental conservation. However, in the field of road traffic, issues such as traffic jams due to heavy snow, and landslides and slope collapses due to heavy rain have been occurring, making it important to ensure alternative road networks in the event of a disaster.

In light of this current situation, we have formulated a sustainability finance framework (this framework) that adds the solution of environmental issues, namely "climate change adaptation," to the existing social finance framework, and obtained a second opinion from R&I, a third-party assessment organization, that it complies with the sustainability bond guidelines set by the International Capital Market Association (ICMA). Based on this framework, NEXCO EAST will raise funds through sustainability bonds and loans as well as social bonds and loans.

NEXCO EAST will use the funds raised to address social and environmental issues and work to realize a sustainable society.
