NHK and NEXCO EAST have signed a cooperation agreement for disaster response.

The Japan Broadcasting Corporation (NHK) and East Nippon Expressway Co., Ltd. (NEXCO EAST) today signed an agreement on cooperation in the event of a disaster, with the aim of strengthening mutual cooperation, enabling the rapid deployment of news coverage activities during disasters, and promptly providing information on the damage and restoration of Expressway (Signed by: Yasuaki Nihei, Director of the News Department East Nippon Expressway Co., Ltd., and Fumihiko Yuki, President and Chief Executive Officer East Nippon Expressway Co., Ltd.).

During large-scale disasters such as earthquakes, the closure of Expressway has presented a challenge in terms of time required to access disaster-stricken areas where reporting takes place. This agreement will allow emergency vehicles to travel through closed sections of Expressway after coordination, which is expected to shorten the time it takes to reach reporting sites and lead to faster disaster reporting. Furthermore, it will enable rapid and thorough information sharing between both parties even during disasters, which is expected to further strengthen the dissemination of information regarding Expressway.

NHK is working to build a robust network to support its reporting that "protects lives and livelihoods" through strengthening external collaborations and other measures. This agreement is part of this effort.
NEXCO EAST 's social mission is to "deliver safe, secure, comfortable, and convenient Expressway services." Through this agreement, we aim to improve our disaster response capabilities.

Specific anticipated cooperation

When a disaster occurs

1. Coordination and cooperation regarding the passage of vehicles used by NHK for disaster reporting, etc., in closed sections of Expressway managed by NEXCO EAST.
2. Information provided by an NHK vehicle regarding the extent of damage to Expressway discovered while in transit.
3. NEXCO EAST provides information to NHK regarding closed sections of Expressway under its management, as well as the status of damage and recovery, and also provides information to local residents through broadcasts and other means.

Activities, information exchange, and training that contribute to improving disaster response capabilities
