Damage to the water leakage prevention plate inside the box culvert on the Do-O Expressway (between Noboribetsu Muroran IC and Noboribetsu East IC)

The water leakage prevention plate of the box culvert on the Do-O Expressway managed by NEXCO EAST Hokkaido Regional Head Office (Atsubetsu Ward, Sapporo City) was damaged, causing a fall event. No damage such as injuries or property damage has been confirmed.

1 History of discovery

1st report to our company About 9:50 on April 5, 2013 (Friday), from the Noboribetsu branch office of the Muroran Construction Management Department in Hokkaido, when the residents near the site were informed that the leak prevention plate had dropped. We contacted us and confirmed that the leak prevention plate had been damaged and dropped on site.

4 Cause of damage

It is highly probable that the ice grew due to the freezing of water on the inner surface of the leak prevention plate, and the pressure caused the ice to damage the attachment part of the leak prevention plate and drop it.
