NEXCO EAST Hokkaido office (Atsubetsu Ward, Sapporo City) will hold a traffic safety campaign during the fall national traffic safety campaign (September 21 (Fri) to 30 (Sun)).

Customers who use the Expressway jointly with Hokkaido police, local kindergarten children, elementary and junior high school students, and local campaign girls at 10 interchanges (ICs), service areas (SAs), and parking areas (PAs) in Hokkaido. We will hand out leaflets and goods to customers to call for road safety.

As the days are getting shorter in autumn and the temperatures in the early morning and night are dropping, we ask that you cooperate with early lighting of the lights and replacement of winter tires in preparation for freezing of the road and snowfall in order to reduce traffic accidents. To do.

We will hand out leaflets and goods to customers using the Expressway to call for traffic safety.

3 Request for traffic safety

  1. Light up early at dusk
    Autumn becomes darker than summer, and there are more accidents at dusk. If you feel it's getting dark, turn on the light early to ensure visibility.
  2. Early winter tire installation
    In the fall, the temperature drops early in the morning and at night, and the road surface may freeze and it may snow. On Expressway Hokkaido, the percentage of accidents caused by steering wheel operation mistakes due to road surface freezes and snowfall increased by 26% from summer to autumn last year. (Figure below). Please change to winter tires as early as possible, and be careful when driving on a frozen road or snow.
  3. All seat belts and child seats worn
    All seats, including the rear seats, are required to wear seat belts or child seats when riding a car.
  4. Elimination of human deaths
    Drivers and passengers who have been forced to stop due to an accident or breakdown are hit by the following vehicles. If you are forced to stop due to an accident, do not walk around the main line or shoulders, stay in the car, and evacuate to a safe place such as the outside of the guardrail.
  5. Reverse run accident prevention
    Sending back can lead to a tragic accident involving a third party. Expressway is a one-way street. Even if you pass the target IC or make a mistake, do not make a U-turn or back, and continue driving and get off at the next IC.
