NEXCO EAST Hokkaido Regional Head Office (Atsubetsu-ku, Sapporo) will be operating on Expressway in Hokkaido during the Obon period [Wednesday, August 9, 2013-Wednesday, August 16, 2023: 8 days] We have compiled a traffic congestion forecast due to concentration, so we will let you know.
1. Congestion prediction and request for decentralized use
Days of congestion
It is predicted that traffic jams will occur from August 11th (Friday/holiday) to 14th (Monday) due to the concentration of traffic.
⇒Please consider using it on a day when there is relatively little traffic.

In Hokkaido this year, it is expected that there will be more movement to eastern Hokkaido, such as the Kachimai Fireworks Festival scheduled to be held on Sunday, August 13th. Please make use of this traffic congestion prediction for comfortable travel planning.

Notes on ETC Holiday Discounts
During the Obon period, from August 11th (Friday) to 13th (Sunday), holiday discounts such as Expressway will not be applied.
2. Guidance of "obon traffic jam prediction"
"Obon Traffic Congestion Prediction" will be distributed and posted at each rest facility in Hokkaido from around mid-July, so please make use of it.

NEXCO EAST 's customer website "DraPla" has opened a special site for traffic congestion. On the special site, a traffic jam forecaster explains points for avoiding traffic jams in videos.
Four. Congestion measures
Based on this traffic congestion forecast and the situation of past traffic congestion periods (year-end and New Year holidays, Obon, Golden Week, etc.), we will implement the following initiatives.
- Providing traffic congestion information and warnings using marked vehicles and road information boards at major traffic congestion points and at the end of traffic congestion
- Warning of slowdown in some tunnels
- Placement of parking lot organizers at rest facilities
