Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and NEXCO EAST is we have promoted the development Ken-O Road of 7.7km from Tsurugashima Junction (JCT) to Kawashima Interchange (IC) section is now possible to open.

  • Opening section: 7.7km from Tsurugashima JCT (Kan-Etsu Expressway) to Kawashima IC (National Route 254)

Expected effect

  • Improved access from western Saitama to Yamanashi and Tokyo
    • Ken-O Road travel time about 55 minutes shortened from Kawashima IC to the Chuo Expressway Hachioji JCT
    • Ken-O Road from Kawashima IC Kan-Etsu Expressway travel time about 25 minutes shortening of up to Oizumi JCT
  • Opening of the Ken-O Road Expressway eases traffic congestion on parallel roads
  • New companies expand around Kawashima IC, increasing local employment
    • After the opening of all lines in Saitama Prefecture, as an economic ripple effect of the industrial base building, an initial investment effect of about 120 billion yen and a recurring effect of about 600 billion yen per year

With the understanding and cooperation of everyone in the region, we will continue to promote the Ken-O Road O Expressway project and aim to open 5.7 km from Kawashima IC to Okegawa JCT (tentative name) in 2009, two years later.

Ken-O Road is a ring-shaped motorway with an extension of about 300 km, which is planned to be located at a radius of 40 to 60 km from the center of the city. Until now, it is about 60.7 km (40.1 km between Hachioji JCT and Tsurugashima JCT, Tsukuba JCT). -Amihigashi IC 13.5km, Kisarazu East IC-Kisarazu JCT 7.1km) is open (overall progress rate about 20%).

Of this, the Saitama section has a planned extension of about 58.4 km, with 19.8 km open (Saitama prefecture progress rate of about 34%).

This opening will connect the section from Tsurugashima Junction to Route 254.
