The Kanto Regional Head Office of East Nippon Expressway Co., Ltd. (NEXCO EAST) and the Tokyo Regional Head Office Central Nippon Expressway Company Limited (NEXCO CENTRAL) are pleased to announce the traffic congestion forecast (traffic congestion of 10km or more) for Expressway in the Kanto-Koshin region and Shizuoka Prefecture during the Obon period [11 days from Thursday, August 7, 2025 to Sunday, August 17, 2025]. If you are traveling during this period, please refer to the traffic congestion forecast and cooperate with spreading out your use of the roads.
Traffic congestion forecasts are based on past traffic congestion records and recent traffic conditions, but may differ from actual traffic conditions due to traffic disruptions such as accidents and weather, so please check the latest traffic information before departing. Please note that holiday discounts will not be applied from August 9th (Saturday) to August 11th (Monday, holiday), August 16th (Saturday), and August 17th (Sunday).
◆Overview of traffic congestion prediction
- This year's Obon holiday falls on a weekday that connects a three-day weekend with Obon, so traffic congestion will tend to be concentrated in the first and second halves of the month.
- It is predicted that the Out-bound lanes will be congested from 8/8 (Fri) to 8/10 (Sun), with the peak on 8/9 (Sat), while the In-bound lanes are predicted to be congested from 8/10 (Sun) to 8/11 (Mon, holiday) and 8/15 (Fri) to 8/16 (Sat), with the peak on 8/11 (Mon, holiday) and 8/16 (Sat).
- Last year's Obon holiday was affected by the issuance of the Nankai Trough earthquake alert and people refraining from traveling due to bad weather, so the number of traffic jams of 10km or more this year is expected to increase by 40 times compared to last year.
