6. How to use smart IC

Smart IC is an IC dedicated to ETC.

• To use it, insert an ETC card into the ETC on-board unit and pass.
• Always stop in front of the smart IC open/close bar.
  (There is no opening/closing bar on the exit side. ETC communication is performed with a free flow antenna ^*.)
• This smart IC does not have local staff. In case of trouble such as the opening / closing bar not opening, please use the intercom in the lane.

With the opening of the Tainai Smart IC, there will be changes to how customers who use ETC will be notified of tolls, issuance of usage certificates, etc.

Matters to note

• On the In-bound line, after passing through the Tainai Smart IC entrance, please use the ETC lane at the Nakajo Main Line toll booth.
• For customers using ETC, the toll is not fixed at the Nakajo main line tollgate on the Out-bound line (it is fixed when the free flow antenna passes), so a usage certificate will not be issued even if you use the general lane. Also, the toll guidance will be changed to the voice guidance of the ETC in-vehicle device when passing through the free flow antenna. If you need a usage certificate, please use the ETC Usage Inquiry Service.
  However, this does not apply to payments with cash or credit cards that cannot use smart ICs.
• When passing through the free flow antenna, be sure to drive with the ETC card inserted in the ETC on-board device.
• The judgment points related to the application of the ETC time zone discount will change when passing through the Tainai Smart IC (entrance) or passing the free flow antenna.

Advance switching of toll information, etc. by free-flow antenna on the Out-bound line

Prior to the opening of the Tainai Smart IC, the above changes will be introduced on the Out-bound line (for Murakami City) from around 14:00 on Friday, March 24, 2023.
