NEXCO EAST Tohoku Regional Head Office (Miyagino-ku, Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture) announces the following information on the usage of Expressway in the Tohoku region managed by the Company during the Bon vacation period [2024 August 8 (Thursday) to 2024 August 18 (Sunday): 11 days].

Traffic volume

  • The average daily traffic volume in the Tohoku region was 23,400 vehicles per day, approximately 101% compared to the same period in 2023.
  • The peak traffic volume was on Saturday, August 10th on the Out-bound lanes and Thursday, August 15th on In-bound lanes.

Congestion

  • There were 22 traffic jams of 5km or more on roads Out-bound direction (3 fewer than the previous year) and 14 on In-bound direction (1 more than the previous year), for a total of 22 traffic jams (2 fewer than the previous year).
  • The longest traffic jam was 17.0 km long and occurred on Thursday, August 15th, starting near Fukushima TN on the Tohoku Tohoku Expressway (In-bound). This traffic jam was caused by traffic concentration.
