- Expressway traffic conditions during the Obon period (preliminary report) [Tohoku region version]

NEXCO EAST Tohoku Regional Head Office (Miyagi Ward, Sendai City) is pleased to announce that it has compiled data on the usage status of Expressway in the Tohoku region managed by our company during the Obon period (11 days from Thursday, August 7, 2025 to Sunday, August 17, 2025).
Traffic volume
- The average daily traffic volume in the Tohoku region was 24,000 vehicles per day, approximately 103% compared to the same period in 2024.
- The peak traffic volume was on Saturday, August 9th on Out-bound lanes and Saturday, August 16th on In-bound lanes.
Congestion
- The number of traffic jams of 5km or more occurred 8 times in Out-bound direction (unchanged from the previous year) and 5 times in the In-bound direction (down 9 times from the previous year), for a total of 13 times (down 9 times from the previous year).
- The largest traffic jam length was 18.0 km on Sunday, August 10 near Adatara SA on the Tohoku Expressway (Out-bound line) and on Friday, August 15 near Fukushima TN on the Tohoku Expressway (In-bound line). The traffic jam near Adatara SA was caused by an accident and traffic concentration, and the traffic jam near Fukushima TN was caused by traffic concentration.
