NEXCO EAST Tohoku Regional Head Office (Miyagi Ward, Sendai City) is pleased to announce that it has compiled data on the usage status of Expressway in the Tohoku region managed by NEXCO during the New Year holiday period (10 days from Friday, December 26, 2025 to Sunday, January 4, 2026).
Traffic volume
- The average daily traffic volume in the Tohoku region was 14,800 vehicles per day, approximately 102% compared to the same period in 2024.
- The peak traffic volume was on Tuesday, December 30th on Out-bound lanes and Saturday, January 3rd on In-bound lanes.
Congestion
- There were zero traffic jams of more than 5km (including traffic jams due to accidents, etc.).
(During the same period in 2024, there were zero traffic jams of 5km or more (including traffic jams due to accidents, etc.).)
Road closure status
- In the Tohoku Regional Head Office area, there were three road closures due to snow, 13 road closures due to traffic accidents, and five road closures due to other factors.
As heavy snowfall is forecast in the Tohoku region in the future, please refrain from making non-essential trips, and if you must use Expressway, please drive safely by using winter tires and carrying tire chains.
