NEXCO EAST (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo), in collaboration with the Japan Road Traffic Information Center (JARTIC), aims to enhance and multilingualize the provision of road traffic information, and is the next-generation highway radio app "E-High Radio". We will start the demonstration experiment by.

1. 1. Overview

Unlike conventional highway radios, the "E-High Radi" app Expressway, which can be useful for avoiding the danger of emergency events and selecting appropriate routes. Specifically, we will push and deliver << emergency information >> such as accidents and falling objects that occurred in the latest direction of travel. In addition, passengers will be able to deliver << road traffic information >> such as road closures and traffic jams in the direction of travel by making a request on the app. You can listen to the information received by the app with the voice playback function of the terminal.

[Points of E-High Radi]

  1. Determine your current position and direction of travel from the GPS information on your smartphone!
  2. Immediately before an accident or falling object, << emergency information >> is delivered by push method!
  3. Deliver << road traffic information >> such as road closures by request method! Supports voice recognition operations!

  5. Experiment on 3 routes in the Chiba area (Keiyo Road, Higashi Kanto Road Takaya Junction (JCT) -Itako Interchange (IC), New Airport Road)!
  • Operation of smartphones while driving is prohibited by the Road Traffic Act. Please use it for passengers.

In addition, the "E-High Radi" app provides information in multiple languages (Japanese, English, Chinese (simplified, traditional), Korean, Thai) to customers whose mother tongue is other than Japanese. This information will be provided on the website "Event Web" through JARTIC so that it can be used by customers before departure.

NEXCO EAST is conducting a demonstration experiment on the sophistication and multilingualization of road traffic information with the aim of further improving the safety and security of Expressway. In collaboration with JARTIC, it will be implemented on 3 routes in the Chiba area (Keiyo Road, Higashi Kanto Expressway Takaya JCT-Itako IC, New Airport Road). In the demonstration experiment, we verified the effectiveness of seamless information provision that enables information to be obtained while driving anywhere on Expressway, and provided information in multiple languages in Japanese. We are planning to verify the usefulness of being able to obtain road traffic information while driving or before departure for customers whose mother tongue is other than Expressway. Through this verification, NEXCO EAST will continue to work on the sophistication and multilingualization of road traffic information provision.

Origin of the name "E-High Radi"

"E-" was added to the abbreviation "High Radi" of the conventional highway radio, and it was named "E-High Radi".
"E-" means eastern Japan​ ​(East) and

Easy (Easy), Anywhere (Everywhere), Evolution (Evolution)

2. how to use

  • Start "E-High Radi" before departure. Please allow "use of location information" and "send notification". If you want to operate by voice, enable "Access to microphone" (hereinafter, [] is voice operation possible).
  • When the driving position and traveling direction are determined on Expressway demonstration experiment area (Fig. 2), the screen automatically transitions to the driving screen.
  • By clicking the [Play Button] at the bottom of the screen, << Road Traffic Information >> will be played by voice.
  • [JCT button] opens the direction selection dialog. Playback by direction is possible by selecting [Direction] on the dialog screen.
  • If there is an accident or a falling object in the immediate vicinity of the direction of travel, << Emergency Information >> will be played automatically.

3. 3. Event Web (JARTIC)

As part of the joint demonstration experiment, << Road Traffic Information >>, which will be distributed on "E-High Radi", will be released on the JARTIC Web page "Event Information Service (hereinafter, Event Web)". It can be listened to in 5 languages including Japanese (Japanese, English, Chinese (simplified, traditional), and Korean). (Refer to the attached sheet [PDF: 246KB] for the screen image)
