NEXCO EAST Hokkaido Regional Head Office (Atsubetsu Ward, Sapporo City), from October 16 to April 30 of the following year, the snow and ice countermeasure period will be set so that customers can use the Expressway safely and safely even in the severe winter season. Positioning, a total of about 1,000 people and about 300 vehicles will be available 24 hours a day to ensure safe traffic such as grasping weather and road conditions and snow removal work.
In addition, NEXCO EAST Group will hold a "Expressway snow and ice countermeasure dispatching ceremony" to implement the snow and ice countermeasure work together this winter.

1 To use the Expressway winter safely and comfortably
The number of accidents in winter on the Expressway winter is about 1.7 times that in summer, and the number of accidents increases sharply every year, usually in early winter around November. When using the Expressway during the winter, please drive safely depending on the weather and road surface conditions. Also, please wear early winter equipment such as wearing winter tires.

2 Snowfall last year
The cumulative amount of snowfall on the Expressway 2014 (October to April) was 375 cm on average. The most common area in Hokkaido was 833 cm for the Kanayama Tunnel, and then 674 cm for the Tokiwa Tunnel. The total distance of snow removal work for this snowfall is about 310,000 km, which is equivalent to about eight laps of the earth. The region with the earliest first snow was October 1 at Tomamu Observatory.
3 Requests for snow and ice work
NEXCO EAST Hokkaido Regional Head Office operates snow and ice on a 24-hour basis to minimize road closures and traffic restrictions on Expressway. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in snow and ice work.

4 Measures against snow and ice (Snow and ice ITS)
NEXCO EAST Hokkaido Regional Head Office, (1) WEB cameras are installed in our patrol cars and high-speed buses, visibility conditions from the driver's eyes and (2) GPS is installed in snow removal work vehicles, and the progress of work can be grasped by the signals, Utilizing snow and ice ITS, such as providing real-time information on work, we are working on snow and ice in accordance with the severe weather conditions and changes in Hokkaido.
