NEXCO EAST Hokkaido Regional Head Office (Atsubetsu-ku, Sapporo City) has positioned the 198 days from October 16th, 1st 2019 2020 Reiwa as the "snow and ice countermeasure period" and is open 24 hours a day. It is responsible for grasping the weather and road conditions and removing snow.
We ask our customers to install winter equipment as soon as possible, such as installing winter tires, and we ask for their understanding and cooperation in snow and ice countermeasure work.
From October 7th to 15th, we will hold a "Snow and Ice Countermeasures Departure Ceremony" at 6 management offices on all Expressway
1 Request for snow removal work
[1] Please cooperate with the low-speed operation of snowplows.
This is the snow removal before the snow accumulated on the road is compacted, and the work is done at a speed of 50km or less by combining 3 snow removal trucks and 1 sign car.
Please slow down and secure sufficient inter-vehicle distance, and follow us.
[2] Be careful not to overtake during freeze prevention work.
If you anticipate freezing on the road surface, spray the antifreeze agent in advance.
Be careful when passing a work vehicle that is spraying, as the anti-freezing agent may splash on the vehicle.
[3] Even if the weather recovers, depending on the road surface conditions, snow removal, antifreeze spraying, and snow removal on the shoulder of the road may be performed, so we ask for your understanding and cooperation.

2 Traffic accident / snowfall situation

Expressway in winter in Hokkaido, accidents caused by steering wheel and brake operation mistakes have increased by about 4.9 times compared to summer due to road surface conditions caused by snow and freezing. Please try to drive safely according to the weather and road surface conditions, and wear winter equipment as soon as possible, such as installing winter tires.
It should be noted that, last season (2018. October to 2019 in Hokkaido in April) Expressway cumulative average snowfall of about 400cm, especially frequent location was the 988cm of Tokiwa tunnel.
3 Date and time of the snow and ice countermeasure launch ceremony
A total of about 370 people and about 145 work vehicles will participate in 6 management offices all over the road.
