2.NEXCO東日本北海道支社 冬の交通安全運動重点ポイント

  1. Get your mind and car ready for winter early!
Before winter really sets in, be sure to switch to winter gear early. Use winter tires, winter wipers, switch to antifreeze washer fluid, check the engine and battery early, and perform inspections and maintenance before setting off on your drive!

  2. Check your tires and try to prevent them from coming off the road!

In Hokkaido, as winter approaches, the number of people changing to winter tires is at its peak, but this is also the time when vehicles are more likely to come off the road. If a tire comes off the road while driving on Expressway, it poses a danger not only to the vehicle that has come off the road, but also to workers within the road if the tire comes into contact with other vehicles or flies into construction zones.
Please check that the nuts are not loose and refill the air pressure in the replaced tires to prevent wheel slippage and tire bursts.

  3. Driving suddenly is strictly prohibited! Don't overestimate your driving skills or the performance of your car, and maintain a sufficient distance between vehicles!
Not only when it is snowing, but even when it is not snowing, the road surface may be frozen due to the temperature difference between morning and evening. Please be mindful to avoid sudden driving such as sudden acceleration, sudden steering, and sudden braking.
In addition, snowy and icy roads are slippery, and it is said that when driving at 40 km/h, packed snow is 3.2 times more slippery and slick ice is 8 times more slippery than dry roads outside of winter*.
Winter roads can be very slippery, so please maintain a safe distance from other vehicles.

  4. Be careful of these places on Expressway in winter! "5 dangerous spots on Expressway "
When driving on Expressway in winter, you need to be especially careful of the following points. Be sure to keep these 5 danger points in mind when driving!
    ①A long Out-bound...
It's easy to pick up speed without realizing it, so be careful of your speed and distance from other vehicles.
    ②Shady roads...
The temperature is low and it's easy to freeze, so be careful not to slip.
    ③Before the curve...
On winter roads, it is essential to slow down early when going around curves. Sudden steering and braking are strictly prohibited.
    ④On the bridge...
The open bridge is often icy, so slow down and be careful not to slip.
    ⑤Tunnel entrance and exit...
There is a risk of strong winds, snowfall and freezing, so be careful as it is particularly prone to freezing.

  5. Check weather and road information before and while you're out!

Be sure to check the weather forecast and road information frequently for several days before your trip, and drive with peace of mind. Also, because the weather in winter can change quickly, be sure to check the information frequently after you leave!
To check Expressway information, please make use of NEXCO EAST 's "DraPla" and "DraTra" as well as the official X-LINE, which are convenient services.
Additionally, the Hokkaido Regional Head Office has produced short vertical videos summarizing points to be aware of when driving on winter roads. Each video is about 30 seconds long, allowing you to easily check the points you need to be careful of when driving on winter roads.
Please take a look before driving on Expressway in winter and use it to ensure safe driving.
The video can be accessed using the QR code in the upper right corner.
