On March 27, the Saitama Prefectural Police announced that they had arrested a person who had been forced to break through without paying a toll at the Kan-Etsu Expressway Niiza Main Line Toll Gate on suspicion of violating the Road Maintenance Special Measures Law.

The Road Maintenance Special Measures Law was amended in accordance with the privatization of road related 4 public corporations on October 1, 2005, and the toll booth was breached in violation of the traffic method (authorized by the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism) established by the Expressway company. Criminal penalties will be imposed on drivers of cars and other vehicles that pass by.

East Nippon Expressway Co., Ltd. has been working on "countermeasures against illegal traffic" for a long time, but since the suspect was repeatedly forced to break through at the toll booth, it reported to the Saitama Prefectural Police Headquarters Expressway Traffic Police Corps. However, this led to the arrest this time.

Until now, we have been working with a strong stance of “don't allow unauthorized traffic” by using unauthorized traffic surveillance cameras, etc. so as not to damage customers' trust in the toll road business. We believe that the arrest of a suspect who has committed illegal traffic will ensure fairness in toll charges and prevent unauthorized traffic.

We will continue to take a resolute attitude against unauthorized traffic and will actively cooperate with police investigations to tackle unauthorized traffic.
