East Nippon Expressway Co., Ltd. (hereinafter NEXCO EAST) Kanto Regional Head Office and Central Japan Expressway Co., Ltd. (hereinafter NEXCO CENTRAL) Tokyo Regional Head Office /Hachioji Regional Head Office, Year-end and New Year period [10 days from Saturday, December 26, 2015 to Monday, January 4, 2016] We would like to inform you of the trends and countermeasures for traffic congestion (10 km or more) due to traffic concentration predicted to occur on Expressway in the Kanto Koshin region and Shizuoka prefecture (including Tomei Toyokawa IC in Aichi prefecture).

Please refer to this traffic jam forecast to avoid peak traffic jams and adjust your departure times to help plan your trip. Although the forecast is based on past traffic jams during the year-end and New Year period and recent traffic conditions, the actual traffic congestion may differ from the forecast due to accidents and weather conditions. Please check for the latest traffic information.

In addition, each Expressway company provides traffic congestion forecast information and road traffic information with various tools. Please use it when using the Expressway.

1 Congestion prediction

(1) Trend of traffic congestion

Out-bound direction is diversified, but it is predicted that congestion will occur mainly from January 2 (Sat) to 3 (Sun). In-bound direction, we predict that congestion will be concentrated on Saturday, January 2 to Sunday, January 3.

By using the traffic congestion prediction and avoiding traffic congestion peaks, we hope that you can reduce traffic congestion and shorten travel time.

  • 1: Regarding the number of traffic jams expected on the Gaikan Expressway, "outer direction" toward Misato Minami IC, "inner direction towards Oizumi JCT", and "outer direction" toward the Sakai Furukawa IC on the Ken-o Expressway Direction” and “inward direction” toward the Chigasaki JCT.
  • 2: The expected number of traffic jams on the Kita-Kanto Expressway is "Eastbound" towards Mito Minami IC and "Westbound" towards Takasaki JCT.

3 Customer Service Initiatives (Countermeasures against congestion)

  • Incidents of people being hit by Expressway are increasing rapidly
    If you are forced to get out of the car due to an accident or breakdown, signal the vehicle behind you with a hazard, a smoke tube, or a triangular stop display board, and then evacuate to a safe place and call the emergency phone etc.
  • Driving for a long time causes an accident
    If you feel drowsiness or tiredness while driving, please do not overdo it and take an early break.
  • Please check the car before driving to prevent troubles during driving.
  • Please wear all seat belts, including the back seats
  • Insert the ETC card securely
  • Enter the ETC lane after decelerating to 20km / h or less, and drive slowly inside the ETC lane.
  • Please be careful of a rear-end collision at the end of a traffic jam
  • For fuel and toilet, take an appropriate break as soon as possible and keep in mind to drive safely.
  • There are many accidents involving motorcycles
    Make sure you understand the traffic and weather conditions, keep a sufficient distance between vehicles, and drive at a safe speed.
