1. Construction overview

In the following tunnels, tunnel reinforcement work will be carried out to prevent road surface upheaval and damage due to expansion of the ground.

  • Joshinetsu Expressway In-bound Line Akarusan Tunnel
Joshinetsu Expressway In-bound line Saku IC ⇒ At the Yato Nagareyama tunnel located at Usui Karuizawa IC, on July 4, 5th year of Reiwa, to switch the central drainage pipe in the tunnel, August 28th and September 11th, 2023 will be closed at night to assemble and dismantle construction machinery necessary for tunnel reinforcement work.
  • Nagano Expressway Out-bound Line Ipponmatsu Tunnel
At the Ipponmatsu Tunnel, which is located between the Asagi IC and Koshoku IC on the Nagano Out-bound Line, we will remove the protective fence that was installed for the tunnel reinforcement work.

Since these construction works cannot be carried out under normal lane restrictions, the construction work will be carried out after closing the road at night on weekdays when there is little traffic.

[Main contents of tunnel reinforcement work]

In order to create a stronger ring-shaped structure for tunnels that are subject to excessive force from around the tunnel, inverts are installed to improve stability. Specifically, concrete (invert) will be installed to reinforce the bottom of the tunnel after excavating the road surface, and then paving work will be carried out to restore the road to a drivable one.

  • What is an invert?--The bottom of the tunnel is connected to the inverted arch with concrete, increasing the yield strength and preventing subsidence and deformation.

In order to minimize the inconvenience to customers, we will close the road at night on weekdays when the traffic volume is low, and carry out the construction work intensively and efficiently. We ask for your understanding and cooperation as this work is necessary for safe and comfortable use of Expressway.

2. How to obtain traffic information

(1) Road traffic information available before going out

(2) Road traffic information that can be obtained while using the Expressway

  • Road information board
  • Highway radio (AM1620kHz)
The highway radio section is indicated by signs on the Expressway.
  • Highway Information Terminal
Wide-area road information is provided in an easy-to-understand manner on the monitor screens installed in SA / PA.

(3) Information on distribution/postings

  • Information on posters, leaflets and digital signage will be posted at nearby tollhouses, SA / PA.
  • A banner will be posted on the overpass on the Expressway.
  • Information is also distributed on the official accounts of Twitter and LINE.
