Initiatives to create a recycling-oriented society

3Rs for waste and construction by-products

Expressway construction uses a lot of materials such as soil and sand, asphalt and concrete mixtures, and ready-mix concrete, and construction by-products are recycled as recyclable resources as much as possible to reduce waste and promote resource recycling (the recycling rate of construction by-products is shown in "Environmental Data").We are also promoting the recycling of bottles, cans, and PET bottles discarded from SAs and PAs, and aim to achieve a 100% recycling rate for bottles, cans, and PET bottles discarded from SAs and PAs by fiscal 2023.

Power generation using biomass (plant-derived materials)

The Tomioka Biomass Gasification Power Plant generates electricity using biomass materials such as grass clippings, pruned branches, and thinned wood generated during Expressway maintenance and management, and supplies this electricity to the interchange toll booths.
This plant does not burn biomass directly, but heats it in a pyrolysis furnace to generate gas, which is then used to generate electricity. The charcoal that is generated as residue is also effectively used as a soil conditioner.

Biomass composting

At the Tomioka Biomass Gasification Power Plant, char is generated as residue when biomass is heated in a pyrolysis furnace, but this is recycled within the plant (for example, for soil improvement at Expressway sites).

Converting to an environmentally friendly facility

We are promoting "eco interchanges" and "eco areas," which will develop interchanges, service areas, and parking areas into environmentally friendly facilities that utilize energy-saving electrical equipment and renewable energy.

Contribution to the formation of a recycling-based society

Green recycling

As a new green recycling system for pruned grass, pruned branches of trees, thinned wood, etc., we operate a biomass gas power generation system that utilizes the gas generated by pyrolysis as energy to supply power to SAPA.

Garbage recycling

By promoting the 3Rs (reduce, reuse, recycle) and promoting green procurement, we will contribute to the formation of a recycling-oriented society.
