NEXCO EAST Tohoku Regional Head Office (Aoba Ward, Sendai City) is the Tohoku region managed by the Company during the large holiday period in September [5 days from Saturday, September 19, 2015 to Wednesday, September 23, 2015]. We will inform you about the usage status of the Expressway.

 During this period, the number of vehicles used was 90% compared to 2015 Golden Week (H27GW), but the amount of traffic congestion (*) decreased by 70%.

It is probable that due to the opening of the Joban Expressway on March 1, 2015, the conversion of traffic from the Tohoku Expressway was planned.

The traffic volume during the September consecutive holidays between Joban Tomioka IC and Namie IC was 14,400 vehicles/day, and traffic conversion from the Tohoku Expressway continues following the H27GW.

  • Congestion of 10 km or more on the main line occurred 3 times in the Out-bound direction (3 times compared to H27GW) and 0 times in the In-bound direction (4 times compared to H27GW) (7 times compared to H27GW).
  • The maximum length of congestion on the main line is 17.7 km (+1.7 km compared to H27GW), and the Furukawa Interchange (IC) to Tomiya on the Tohoku Expressway on Sunday, September 20 (9:23-14:05 peak time 11:26) It occurred between junctions (JCT) (Out-bound line). This traffic jam was caused by an accident near Furukawa IC.
  • The amount of traffic congestion was 71 km·h (about 30% compared to H27GW), a decrease of about 70%.
